The Importance of Backgrounds - One Day Workshop - 9/5/26, 9:30-2pm with Hayley Perry! Sign up here!
This is for an in-person 1 day workshop with Hayley Perry of Loop by Loop Studio!
Course Description: This workshop will cover everything you need to know to enhance the background spaces of your hooked rugs! During this 4.5 hour workshop, we will cover how to approach the “negative” space within your rugs in order to make them more interesting!
We will explore the importance of value (light and dark), how to create movement, color intensity, line, and using mixed materials in your backgrounds. We will begin with a presentation on hooked rug backgrounds and then color plan our individual projects.
Students should bring: a rug hooking hook, scissors, a hoop or frame, a variety of materials to fill in your pattern (wool strips, roving, silk, yarns, t-shirt yarn, etc). Students may bring any rug hooking pattern they wish to color plan with the group, purchase a pattern from Loop by Loop Studio, or design the pattern once they come to class (a “with ½ yard linen” option is available when you sign up for the class).
This workshop is $75 per person or $95 for the class and a piece of 36 × 30 inch linen. I will need at least 3 people signed up to run this class with a max of 7 students. I will send an email the week of the class to confirm participation and share directions to the studio.
Please note: There is no elevator in the building - only stairs. This is an industrial space so there will be other tenants working, making noise, and moving heavy equipment - use caution when moving around in common areas. If you’d like to bring a beverage to enjoy, a covered cup is best. Please let us know if you plan to bring a large frame so we can plan space wise.
