40018703_1477155029094767_4717995718952878080_o.jpg

During the next Little Rhody Thrummers rug hooking guild meeting, Hayley Perry, of Loop by Loop Studio, will be presenting a topic she recently covered in Wool Works Magazine: Creating Movement in Your Primitive Hooked Rug.

When: Saturday, 3/2/19 @10am
Where: Barrington Public Library

Although I don't have an official start time for my presentation, the guild meeting, which is open to visitors, begins at 10am.  Meetings are usually scheduled as follows: opening remarks and business, presentations and planned activities, show and tell, 1-2 hour long "hook in."

I will also be bringing some wool, foundations, and patterns available for purchase during this meeting.  It's going to be a busy day for Loop by Loop Studio!

If you aren't convinced to come yet, I plan on making Date Squares to share during the meeting!  So delicious.

MAKE YOUR OWN 3D PILLOW ON LINEN @ STUDIO 217 - STARTS 4/4/18

Geometric Pillow on Linen Class (4).png

FOUR SESSION CLASS

DATES: WEDNESDAYS 4/4, 4/11, and 4/18, 4/25/18

Ages 12 - Adult

WENESDAYS 5:30 - 7:00PM  |  $125 (4 weeks)

An introductory course into traditional North American craft of rug hooking. Dating back to pioneer times, rug hooking recycles common materials into unitarian objects for the home. This course will teach the original technique used in rug hooking and allow you to create beautiful textile art pillows that will brighten your home.

Each student will complete one 12 x 16 inch linen pillow hooked with three multicolored circles.  Students will be allowed to pick their own colors and material for pillow backing.  Students will learn about basic design elements (emphasis on color, contrast, and texture) and learn some traditional geometric fiber art designs (hit and miss, cat’s paw, log cabin, etc.). Students will also learn the correct hooking and finishing techniques to complete their pillow.

All materials (including a reusable rug hook and wooden quilting hoop to keep) are included in the cost of the class (discount if you do not need a rug hook or hoop).  It is helpful for students to have had some sewing experience.  Having a sewing machine at home is helpful but not necessary.

Typically, students complete about 75% of their project during class time. Students will be given lessons on how to construct their pillows, although it is expected that students will finish this project on their own.

This class will need at least two students to run.  Email me at info@loopbyloopstudio if you have any questions about class time or availability.  I am also available to teach this course to small groups at a time that is convenient to your group (2 or more).  Email me for more info.

Bristol/Warren Art Night - July 27th, 2017

July 27th's Art Night is All About Warren, which is very exciting for me since this is my first year participating in the Bristol/Warren Art Nights!  All of Cutler Mills is expected to be open and mingling on this night from 5-8pm.  I know I will be here with my rug hooking table giving demos and quick lessons to anyone who is interested!  Come by and browse my studio, have a snack, and then go out to explore the town.

Close by on Market Street is the Imago Gallery, which hosts some wonderful contemporary art exhibitions.  If you are looking to shop, I suggest Made in Warren or the Collaborative, which are both on Main Street.  Water Street is a wonderful place to walk around since there are water views and breezes around every corner.  Consider stopping for a cocktail at Traffords, the Revival, or Square Peg!

Whatever you decide, Warren is a great little town to explore, with little shops and restaurants popping constantly!

Bristol/Warren Art Night - June 29th, 2017

June's Bristol Warren Art Night will be the first Open Studio event I will be participating in since moving into the Cutler Mills in Warren, RI!  This event will have an emphasis on Bristol, RI's art scene, with the Art Trolley making several stops within the town of Bristol!

That's not to say that Warren won't be hopping though.  Studio 217 will be open and I will be demoing rug hooking for anyone that would like to stop by between 5-8pm.  Galleries like the Imago Gallery or the Collaborative offer local and contemporary art.  Come on down! Maybe grab a bite to eat at Eli's Kitchen, Chomp, or the Square Peg (a few of my favorites), walk the bike path, or pop into gift shops like Imagine or Made in Warren!

Whatever you decide, Warren is a really fun, low pressure town to bop around!
